YWCA KL
SOCIAL ENTERPRISE PROJECTS
YWCA KL launched it's first social enterprise project in December 2017 and has since expanded to include the below:
THE Y BAGMAKER
The Y Bagmaker aims to create a social enterprise within the VTOC Sewing & Tailoring course whereby the students could earn income while studying for their needs, while learning about entrepreneurship so they may one day start their own business.
To this end, donated remnant fabrics were upcycled into bags, and the students exposed to various parts of the product cycle from fashion design, production and finally selling at markets & bazaars.
Today the Y sewing network has expanded to include VTOC graduates and other womens’ groups seeking to improve their livelihoods through sewing such as Mum’s Sew with Love and Desa Mentari Ladie’s Craft.
It is the hope of the Y Sewing Network to grow a movement of women standing together to fulfill their dreams and in doing so, serve & better society via creativity, development & training.
THE Y POP UP SALON
The Y Pop Up Salon is a social enterprise project for the Hairdressing & Beauty Care Course of the VTOC, providing students and graduates training and employment opportunities.
Services include manicures, pedicures, and henna (by appointment only). Please contact Ms. Karti at +6012 635 0002 to book an appointment.
The Y Pop Up Salon also creates body care products such as soaps for sale and runs corporate workshops. For enquiries, please contact +6012 289 3228.
